Silver for John Joe Nevin
John Joe Nevin took the silver medal for Ireland during his bantamweight final at the London Olympics.
Nevin lost narrowlyto Great Britain’s Luke Campbell by 14 points to 11. The Mullingar native put up a spirited performance and was widely supported by membersof Team Ireland who were present in the Excel arena.
Following the fight, Olympic Council of Ireland President Patrick Hickey along with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny met with John Joe and members of the boxing team to offer their congratulations on his success.
