Shooting has appeared on every Olympic program except St Louis 1904 and Amsterdam 1928. The number and variety of events have changed many times over the Olympiads. Ireland has had a regular and strong presence in the shooting sports at the Olympics going back to early participation in the rifle and shotgun events.

Burnett joint 8th at ISSF World Cup

Ireland’s Derek Burnett reached a season best to finish joint 8th in the Men’s Trap event at the ISSF World Cup Shooting event at Maribor Slovenia. Burnett who along with team mates Wayne Byrne and David Malone competed at the last World Cup event of 2011 which drew a world record attendance of over 592 athletes from 77 countries.

Gary Duff loses out on medal by narrowest of margins.

Atlanta Olympian Gary Duff was narrowly pipped for a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi on Tuesday 12th October. Gary who was representing Northern Ireland alongside compatriot Matthew Hall in the Men's 50m Prone Rifle pairs were narrowly beaten by the Australian pairing of Beijing bronze medal and joint World Record holder: Warren Potent and David Clifton by just three centre tens.

London 2012 qualification competitions announced

The International Shooting Sport Federation has announced the 2011 World Cup Series calendar. Shotgun shooters will open the season in Chile, at the beginning of March, while Rifle and Pistol shooters will follow in Sydney, where the only combined World Cup of the season will kick-off on the 21st of March.
